Synopsis

In 1979 Warsaw, Ewa, a dancer and pianist, loses her mother in the Rotunda explosion. In a Poland made hopeless by Soviet politics, her father encourages her to go to Paris. There she meets her future husband, Claude, an art gallery consultant by day and a musician by night. Both are united by her passion for art and the desire to travel in search of a better future.
Ten years later in an Australian coastal town, Claude finds himself involved in an art smuggling run by a dangerous mobster. Guided by his ideals and his wife, he comes into contact with a police inspector putting his life in danger.
Director's note

Aesthete uses a nonlinear narrative that maintains the balance between a symbolic story about love through a couple of artists (ref. Pawlikowski or Kieślowski), and the action generated by the crime genre (ref. Scorsese). The whole is immersed in true historical events, recreating a fictional story that seeks realism. As a result, this film offers unusual contexts such as artist life in Montmartre and communist Warsaw in the 80s, or art smuggling in Australia in the 90s. In addition, the project could take advantage of co-production opportunities with the countries of the film's locations: France, Poland and Australia, all very actives in the film industry.
